Danso stars for Austria

14 March 2013

MK Dons youngster Kevin Danso made his international debut for the Austrian Under-15s yesterday (Wednesday) in a friendly against Hungary.

It was the first time an MK Dons Academy player has played for a country outside the home nations.

The Austrian side were beaten 3-2 at Bad Tatzmanndorf but the match proved to be a valuable learning curve for the Academy midfielder.

Danso, who faced the difficulty of the language barrier,  was handed a starting berth and occupied an unfamiliar role as he acted as the target-man for the Austrian team. During his 55 minutes on the pitch Danso saw an effort in the first fall wide but his link-up play proved a useful asset to the young side.

Hungary took the lead in the 15th minute before Austria pegged them back as the half-hour mark approached. Danso then had a starring role as he provided the assist for Bayern Munich’s Marco Friedl, who fired them into the lead.

Unfortunately, Austria were unable to hold on to their lead and two goals in the final 18 minutes saw Hungary clinch the bragging rights.
