Danny and England down France

23 April 2014

Danny Collinge came off the bench to help England Under-16s beat France and secure a third-place finish at the Montaigu Tournament.

The young Lions twice came from behind to hold France to a 2-2 draw after 80 minutes and take the game to penalties where Kenny Swain’s side prevailed 5-3.

The French took the lead after just 21 minutes but West Ham United striker Jahmal Hector-Ingram levelled just 12 minutes later.

Group A runners-up France then made it 2-1 before Everton midfielder Tom Davies pegged them back for a second time with a 51st minute striker.

Liverpool’s Adam Phillips did come close to winning it in normal time with a free-kick which crashed against the crossbar but it didn’t matter, in the end, as England held their nerve to triumph in the dreaded shoot-out.

Collinge, who featured in all four of England’s games, was brought on as at half-time in place of Manchester United’ Ro-Shaun Williams to earn his 10th international cap.
