Church’s Wales heading to Euro 2016

12 October 2015

Simon Church and Wales qualified for Euro 2016 at the weekend, despite suffering defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Wales needed a point to reach their first major tournament finals in 57 years but were beaten 2-0 in Zenica.

However, courtesy of Cyprus’ 2-1 win over Israel, Church and co are assured of second place in Group B and can now look forward to next summer’s tournament, which takes place in France.

Striker Church played the final few minutes of Saturday’s qualifier to take his appearance total during the European Championship qualifying campaign to six.

He follows in the footsteps of Dons teammates Ben Reeves and Lee Hodson, who helped Northern Ireland book their place at Euro 2016 last Wednesday evening.

Wales have one final group fixture remaining against Andorra on Tuesday, where, in order for them to finish top of their group, they will need to win and hope Belgium lose.
