Burns delighted with debut

6 May 2014

Charlie Burns says making his senior debut in last weekend’s clash with Leyton Orient was a ‘dream come true’.

The 18-year-old replaced an injured David Martin in the 34th minute of last Saturday’s clash and put in assured performance between the sticks at stadiummk, against a promotion-chasing O’s side.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” Burns told MK Dons Player. “Playing your first professional game is a dream come true and I’m over the moon that I’ve finally done it.

“Every day in training, trying to better yourself, working on everything, working on your weaknesses, it’s all aiming towards playing in front of thousands of people.

“I’m desperate to be back involved again. I wish there was another game next week that I could be involved in.”

Burns was initially released by the Football Club last summer upon the completion of his scholarship but after being brought back by the Academy earlier at the beginning of the season, the youngster has since been named on the bench for the first-team 18 times.

But after finally making his first appearance, Burns was eager to pay tribute to Goalkeeper Coach Paul Heald and fellow shot-stopper David Martin for their help on the training pitch.

He added: “I can’t describe how much (Paul Heald) has helped me and how much I value everything he’s taught me. I can’t describe how thankful I am to him for it.

“Dave, too, he’s a proper professional in everything he does both on the pitch and off it and so if I can reach half of what he has then I’ll be proud.”
