Baldock & U’s earn point at Pompey

2 March 2015

Four Dons loanees were in action on Saturday, including George Baldock who helped Oxford United earn a point away at Portsmouth.

The right-back played the full 90 minutes as Michael Appleton’s men held Pompey to a goalless draw at Fratton Park to move five points clear of the relegation places in Sky Bet League 2.

Baldock twice came close to providing the U’s with a chance to earn all three points but neither Patrick Hoban nor Danny Hylton could finish from his crosses.  The 21-year-old was also booked for a high boot.

Giorgio Rasulo, also on loan at Oxford, was an unused substitute.

Elsewhere, Kabongo Tshimanga made his debut alongside Harry Hickford in Chelmsford City’s Vanarama Conference South 2-1 defeat to Bromley.

The young striker started the contest and was a constant threat with his direct runs while Hickford, playing in an unorthodox midfield position, went close with a header which was cleared off the line.

Tshimanga was eventually substituted in the 68th minute and replaced by former Don Mason Spence. Hickford, meanwhile, was shown a straight red card in stoppage time for a late tackle on Bromley’s Ugo Udoji.

The other Don in action this past weekend was Will Summerfield, who played the entirety of Bedford Town’s 2-0 victory away at Daventry Town.

The Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central side went ahead after just two minutes before doubling their advantage on the half hour. The win saw Bedford climb above their relegation rivals into 17th.
