Baker: We’ll come back fighting

10 March 2015

Carl Baker insists that although he and his team-mates were ‘devastated’ by Saturday’s defeat to Preston North End, they will stick together and come back fighting.

The Dons fell to fourth in the Sky Bet League 1 table after a 2-0 loss to their promotion rivals from Lancashire at stadiummk but, with 11 games still to go, Baker isn’t giving up hope of making 2014/15 a successful campaign.

"The lads are absolutely devastated and it hurts us as much as the fans," he told the media after the game. “We're all really hurting because we've not been at it for the last few games and that’s not good enough.

"We're disappointed with (the Preston) game and we knew it was a massive one going into it. The last few weeks haven't been acceptable but we're not going to go under, we’re going to hold our heads up high and keep fighting.

"We can't fall away now because we've done well all season and we've worked too hard to get where we are. We just need to stick together and we need the fans to keep behind us.

"It's going to take a lot of hard work. We'll analyse the game, take the positives and work on the negatives to make sure we get better."

Next up for Baker and the Dons is a trip to the Banks’s Stadium to face Walsall and a victory there, according to the winger, would provide the lift the team are in need of.

"A win would get the confidence right back up and if you put a win and a good performance together, it turns everything round.

“(Preston) will think second is theirs now but we can't let them think that. We need to push them all the way and it's all about getting wins and points on the board until the end of the season.”

He continued: “They're all massive games between now and the end of the season and we need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible."
