Thirteen months after the departure of Patrick Bamford, the Dons returned to Chelsea to recruit another talented youngster in the form of Lewis Baker.
Baker, 19, completed a loan move to stadiummk on Wednesday and the creative midfielder now hopes to follow in the footsteps of one his Blues teammates and be a hit in Milton Keynes.
“Patrick’s a great player and a great person,” Baker told mkdons.com. “He’s now in the Championship and I personally think he could play in the Premier League. He came here and did really well and hopefully I can too.”
This loan will see Baker spend the remainder of the 2014/15 campaign at MK1 and during that time the England Under-21 international is not only looking to gain experience at senior level but also help Karl Robinson’s side with their promotion push.
“I’m definitely exciting by this opportunity. This is a good club and they’re expecting to do big things between now and the end of the season - it will be a good experience for me.
“I’ve learnt a lot this season training with the Chelsea first team on a regular basis and I also enjoyed my time at Sheffield Wednesday. I’ve gained valuable experience everywhere I’ve gone so far and hopefully that will continue here.
“I scored a few goals last season so I hope to bring some of that to the team. I’m always hard-working as well, I’ll never quit and I’ll always give my all for the team.”
Some fans may already be aware of Baker’s exciting talents, after a video of his stunning goal against Arsenal during a Barclays Premier League Under-21 match went viral on social media.
“It was great scoring that goal,” Baker said. “It won Chelsea’s Goal of the Season award, which included the first team as well, so that was a great achievement for me.
“The main thing, though, was that it helped us to win that game and we eventually went on to win the Under-21s league final.”
It was Baker, in fact, who netted the decisive goal in that 2014 final against Manchester United to secure the Under-21s title for the Blues and he now hopes to continue that winning feeling during his stay with the Dons.
“Winning is what MK Dons have been doing all season which is why they’re second in the league. That’s what the club and all the fans want to continue and hopefully I can help with that.”
Baker could make his debut on Saturday when the Dons face Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena -tickets for the match are priced at £22 for adults, £15 for seniors, £15 for U21s and £11 for U16s.
