Academy recruit Rubio

3 July 2015

Eduardo Rubio has joined the Dons as the Head of Academy Coaching.

Rubio arrives from the Nike Academy, where he was the assistant manager, helping to develop young unsigned players break through into professional football while also leading the coaching and games programmes.

The UEFA Pro Licensed coach previously worked with the Dons as an Under-13s coach between 2010 and 2011 and during his career he has enjoyed spells with the FA, Chelsea Under-15s and Valencia in his country of birth, Spain.

Reporting to Director of Youth Mike Dove, Rubio will take charge of the coaching programme from under-7s up to under-18s, implementing and re-enforcing coaching strategies to benefit the players' development.

Speaking to mkdons.com, Rubio said: “A few years ago and I had the chance to work with the Under-13s here and since then I’ve always had a genuine love for the Club and the Academy.

“This is going to be a new challenge for me but I’m delighted. I do believe in the philosophy that Mike Dove and the coaches have implemented over the years so it’s going to be easy for me to come back in and try to help develop things.

“I’m looking forward to playing a part in the Club’s legacy if we do keep producing players and moving them into the first-team.”

Director of Youth Dove added: “Ed’s philosophy and calibre are two of the main reasons he brought him to the Club.

“We’ve been building a philosophy in the Academy since day one, so it’s important, to me, that whoever comes in to work here has to believe in that – that’s why Ed is going to be such a good fit.”
