MK Dons has appointed Lewis Higgs as Lead Youth Development Phase Coach in the Academy.

“I have a good working relationship with Mike (Dove) and Edu (Rubio) and I hope to bring some youthful exuberance to the role.”

“There is a lot for me to learn in this new role but, because I’ve been here for such a long time, I know all the players well and I understand the Club’s core values – it will be an evolution, rather than a revolution.

“I’m proud and pleased that this has come about,” Higgs told mkdons.com. “I’ve been with the Club for eight or nine years now so it’s another step in the journey.

He added: “Hopefully he’ll continue the good work he’s already done to help the Academy get better, as well as also becoming a better coach as a result.”

“The players know him and he already has relationships with them. There are a lot of positives for employing him. He’s a local lad as well, which is important to me.

“Lewis has worked with these age groups before and when Steve left earlier this year, he stepped in and did both phases, doing a very good job.

Director of Youth Dove said of Higgs’ appointment: “We wanted to have someone that gets both Milton Keynes as a community and the Club and Lewis does. He’s also added into what we’ve done as an Academy so to see him come into this role makes sense to me.

Higgs will control the coaching and games programme for the Dons’ Under-15s and Under-16s sides, as well oversee the work done with the Under-13s and Under-14s age groups, with the aim to provide players for the Apprenticeship stage.
