Walsh & Wales face important qualifier

24 March 2017

Joe Walsh will be hoping to make his senior debut for Wales this evening in their FIFA World Cup qualifier with the Republic of Ireland.

Walsh is part of Chris Coleman’s 23-man squad for the fixture, which takes place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

It’s an important match for Wales, who are aiming to close the four-point gap between themselves and current Group D leaders Republic of Ireland.

Only the group winners secure automatic qualification for the 2018 World Cup, while the eight best of the nine second-placed teams must enter the play-offs.

Wales, therefore, need to start picking up points after collecting just six from their first four group games.

Dons defender Walsh isn’t expected to start for Wales, whose starting XI will likely include Real Madrid star Gareth Bale and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey. The 24-year-old, however, may get a chance off the bench in what would be his first appearance for Wales at senior level.
