Robbie Neilson rued missed chances after his MK Dons side were held to goalless draw by Bury.

Neilson’s men had several opportunities to take all three points from their Sky Bet League One clash at Gigg Lane couldn’t find a way past Shakers goalkeeper Joe Murphy and were forced to settle for a stalemate.

“It was disappointing,” Neilson said after Tuesday’s clash. “We showed flashes but just didn’t sustain it.

“(Gigg Lane) is a difficult place to come to, it's a difficult surface and it’s against a team fighting for their lives.

“We had a few chances but we just didn't take them and that's the big difference between today and that Peterborough (United) game – when the chances come, you have to take them to try and open the game up.

“It was frustrating not to get three points.”

He continued: “We've played better than this and we need to get back to the levels we know we can do.

“There will always be ups and downs throughout the season but we really need to make sure we get back to winning ways on Saturday.”

Tuesday’s draw leaves the Dons 11 points adrift of the Sky Bet League One play-off places with 15 games left to play in the 2016/17 season and while the Scotsman isn’t giving up hope of a top-six finish, he doesn’t want to look too far ahead and instead remains focused on the short-term.

“We're still gunning for the play-offs if we can, although our chances took a dent today. Play-offs has to be the aim but we aren’t getting too far ahead of ourselves.

“We're breaking it down into five game periods. We got 10 points in the last five games before (Bury) and now we're trying to beat that if we can – we’ve got one and we have 12 to play for up until Millwall so we just need to win as many as we can.”

Neilson's Dons will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host promotion-hopefuls Fleetwood Town at Stadium MK - tickets are priced at £22 adults, £17 over-65s/under-21s* and £7 under-18s while under-12s go FREE with a Young Dons membership*
