Kieran Agard was at the double on his debut to help his new side earn a 2-2 draw in an entertaining first outing of the season at Stadium MK.
The Club’s record signing scored twice in five minutes to cancel out the visitors’ two-goal lead and ensure the Dons enjoyed an unbeaten first week of 2016/17.
Agard started after arriving from Bristol City earlier in the week – he replaced the injured Samir Carruthers in the only change from the opening-day win over Shrewsbury Town.
Robinson’s men started strongly with the defence looking assured and the offensive players looking dangerous, in particular Daniel Powell, whose direct and powerful running was causing problems.
However, it was the visitors who registered the first efforts on target through Aiden O’Brien, who forced David Martin into two saves in quick succession.
At the other end, George C Williams headed wide an Ed Upson cross from the right, but the men from MK1 found themselves behind on 24 minutes when Upson diverted Tony Craig’s header into his own net from a corner.
Things got worse for the Dons just three minutes later as David Worrall stole in at the back post to fire O’Brien’s delivery into the roof of the net.
But, Robinson’s men found an immediate response through Agard – the new boy finding himself some space on the edge of the box before drilling a fine effort into the bottom right-hand corner.
The 26-year-old then went one better just five minutes later and drew his new side level, latching on to Upson’s through-ball and heading over the on-rushing Jordan Archer. Some debut and only 35 minutes old!
Powell was continuing to look dangerous on the opposite side and he shot into the side-netting five minutes before the break.
Shortly afterwards, GC Williams made a clever run and was picked out by Dean Lewington but he couldn’t find a team-mate inside the 18-yard box.
O’Brien fired wide for the hosts at the start of the second half before, at the other end, GC Williams went close with a low drive which went just past the right-hand post.
Martin ensured the score remained at 2-2 on the hour mark when he got down to his right and superbly tipped O’Brien’s effort round the post.
Shortly afterwards, Tuesday’s match-winner Dean Bowditch was introduced as Robinson looked to try and bring a fresh impetus to the Dons attack.
That gave the hosts a lift and signalled the start of a spell of pressure but the visitors’ defence held firm as the game entered the final 20 minutes.
Millwall still looked lively on the counter-attack, though, and Joe Walsh had to be alert to block Jimmy Abdou’s goal-bound effort from 12 yards.
Likewise at the other end, Shane Ferguson was on hand to brilliantly deny Nicky Maynard a certain goal at the back post after Powell’s dangerous delivery had travelled all the way across the box.
There was a real ebb and flow to the game as both sides went in search of winner - Potter curled wide at one end before Martin tipped over Byron Webster’s powerful header at the other.
Agard left the field in the 87th minute to a standing ovation from the Dons supporters – replaced by a rising star in Brandon Thomas-Asante, who nearly won it late on with a fine turn and shot but Archer was up to the task.
