A dominant MK Dons Ladies display earned them a resounding 7-0 win against Denham United.
Hannah Barrett got the first goal of the game, firing home a dangerous cross from Sammy Gillings.
The Dons quickly doubled their lead moments later when Heather McDonnell found herself in a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper, where she calmly slotted the ball to the left of the charging Denham keeper.
It then wasn’t until the second half that the Dons got on the scoresheet again, once again grabbing two in quick succession.
Charley Clarke smashed the ball home from inside the box to make it 3-0 before confusion in the Denham defence, after the Dons pressurised them, led to an own goal.
Charly Wright helped make it 5-0 to the Dons as she grabbed an assist straight after coming on, whipping the ball into the box for Leah Cudone (pictured) to fire home.
Cudone then followed her first goal of the game, by grabbing her second thanks to a brilliant pass finding her in space courtesy of Kerry Newman.
Newman once again acted as the provider, playing an excellent ball just in front of McDonnell, who ran onto it before striking the ball into the top right corner of the net, to score the final goal of the game and make it 7-0.
The Dons started the game well, despite difficult weather conditions, with Rebecca Vass having the first opportunity of the game, firing wide, after Clarke had played a long ball forward.
Cudone tried to open the scoring by firing the ball hard and low, but the keeper matched her effort. The keeper’s resulting clearance then fell to Sasha Newsome, who struck the ball with power from distance, but once again the keeper stood strong.
Clarke followed Newsome’s shot from distance with an attempt her of own, going equally as close, but the ball went wide of the top right corner.
At the 27th minute mark, Barrett grabbed the first goal of the game making, the Dons’ possession count, firing home a low cross into the box from Gillings.
It took only three more minutes for the Dons to make it 2-0, as McDonnell darted towards goal and as the keeper attempted to close her down, she fired the ball into the net.
Cudone and McDonnell both had attempts go wide before halftime, with Vass going one step further, hitting the crossbar before the halftime whistle went.
The weather conditions improved for the second half and worked in the Dons’ favour, with Barrett and McDonnell both only being denied more goals because of impressive goalkeeping.
However, there was nothing the Denham goalkeeper could do when Clarke thunderously struck the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
The Dons went on the attack straight from the restart and the instant pressure paid off as the Denham defence got confused and turned the ball into their own net to make it 4-0.
The three substitutes, Wright, Louise Naylor and Newman, who had come on for the Dons all started to make a positive impact. Wright’s cross found Cudone in the box, who neatly shot the ball in the back of the net to make it 5-0.
Naylor and Newman nearly teamed up successfully, as Newman burst down the wing, crossing it to Naylor who fired it just over.
It didn’t take long for Newman to grab an assist, as minutes later she threaded the ball through to Leah Cudone, who accurately guided the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to make it 6-0.
The final goal of the game, to make it 7-0, came courtesy of excellent play between Newman and McDonnell, with Newman playing a pinpoint pass, making it easy for McDonnell to smash the ball home.
A buoyant Gillings, who nearly got on the scoresheet near the end, spoke after game, she said: “I think our performance was fantastic, our goals were brilliant and some of them were world class goals to be honest, I think we could have grabbed a few more as well.”
The defender was not only happy at the margin, but also how along with her fellow defenders, the side were able to keep a clean sheet: “When there was an injury with about 12 minutes left, we all got together and said let’s keep this going, let’s keep the clean sheet, as also in our minds we’re thinking of the goal difference.
Manager James Honeyman followed up his defender’s comments adding: “I think it’s the best we’ve managed a game, we created lots of chances, even hitting the bar twice.
“I mean we scored seven goals today, it shows how clinical and ruthless we are and that was something we talked about before the game.”
Honeyman was happy about the impact of his substitutes in the game, he said: “ I think Naylor has been excellent every time she has come on the pitch this season, I thought she gave us some security.
“Newman was blinding when she came on, one of the best times I’ve seen her play in terms of her directness but also thoughtfulness of her passes.
“We know exactly what Wright is about, when she comes on, her delivery is great and she put a great shift in today.”
