Neilson: Patience key for right players

17 January 2017

Robbie Neilson is optimistic of bringing a number of his top targets to MK Dons but has asked for patience as the process hots up.

Neilson has yet to make his first signing as Dons boss but the Scotsman expects to add to his squad in the near future.

"We're still chasing two of our top targets," said Neilson. "It is taking time but I'm confident of getting at least one of those. If we don’t, we have a couple of targets who are next on the list too."

He added: "Some of these signings will be permanent and will be here for the foreseeable future."

With the window having been open for two-and-a-half weeks and no signings to date, there has some question marks as to when or even if players will arrive at Stadium MK but Neilson was quick to reassure fans, stressing that patience is key.

He said: "Of course, I would have liked to have them in earlier but I'm happy with where we are – we will get players in.

"I have to stay calm and keep everyone else calm about it. Patience is a word not often used in football but you have give us time to get the right people.

"Any player who I bring in has to be better than the players we have here already – that's the way we have to improve this team. We could have signed six players on the first day, but they wouldn't improve the team.

"It's not about Saturday, it's about the rest of the season. Whether they come on the first or last day of the window, we have to work with them for four months. Everyone needs to be patient."
