Karl praises returning Kay

27 September 2016

Karl Robinson praised former MK Dons defender Antony Kay ahead of his return to Stadium MK this evening.

Kay left the Club at the end of the 2015/16 season after making 161 appearances under Robinson but is back this evening as captain of tonight’s opponents Bury.

“There was nothing more Antony could have put into the shirt,” Robinson told MK Dons PlayerHD. “He was an amazing servant to the Club and he will always be welcome here.

“He’s somebody who I have huge respect for. I had some tremendous debates with him but that’s because he’s a very strong-minded individual and you won’t those people around – he probably made me a better manager.

“Hopefully he’ll look back on his time here fondly, especially from a fitness perspective with the work the fitness staff did with him, and with the way the team played – it suited him being a central midfielder moving to centre-half.

“He was, of course, part of that team that was very successful and I thank him for all the moments he gave us.”

He continued: “Before and after we’ll shake hands but I’m sure during the 90 minutes Kaysy will be just as ferocious as he always is – he’s playing for the opposition and we both want to win.”

“We need to make sure we’re at our best.”

He said: “The league doesn’t tell too many lies at this time of the year – we’re slowly starting to get to that 10 to 15 game mark when it all starts to really take shape.

Kay’s Bury side have impressed at the start of this season and currently sit second in the Sky Bet League One table having won their last four matches in the division - Robinson, therefore, is expecting a difficult game.
