mkdons.com takes a look at promising midfielder Harvey Barnes, who has joined on loan from Leicester City...

Barnes is a product of the Leicester’s Academy, having been with the Foxes since the age of nine.

The attack-minded youngster, who made seven appearances for the City’s Under-23s side in 2015/16, was awarded his first professional deal in June last year, signing a long-term contract with the King Power Stadium outfit.

A month before that, he played a key role in Leicester’s shield success at the prestigious HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens youth tournament in Hong Kong.

Since turning pro, Barnes has been a regular in the Foxes Under-23s team in their Premier League 2 campaign. He’s scored three goals this campaign, including an 87th-minute winner in a 3-2 win over Reading.

The 18-year-old was also involved in every game of Leicester’s Checkatrade Trophy campaign, helping the Foxes reach the knock-out stages of the competition.

However, the highlight of Barnes’ season came in early December when was called up to the first-team for the UEFA Champions League tie away at Porto.

The young professional was named among the substitutes by Claudio Ranieri but was handed his debut in the second half, replacing Danny Drinkwater with 14 minutes left to play.

While that cameo is his solitary appearance for the senior side this season, it wasn’t his first involvement in Europe having represented the Premier League champions in the UEFA Youth League.

Barnes started and finished five of Leicester’s six group matches, with his stand-out performance coming against FC Copenhagen – the exciting talent scored twice in the away leg in Denmark.

That leads up to Barnes’ move to Milton Keynes – the first loan switch of his career.
