Despite a lack of clear-cut chances, the competitive nature of the friendly continued as the hour mark approached.

Robinson’s men started the second half brightly and Upson went close to doubling his tally and pulling his side level when he curled an effort just over the top from 20 yards.

An instant response was nearly provided by Maynard but he dragged his effort wide of the far post after getting in down the right-hand side.

.2-1 However, the hosts went back in front on 37 minutes when Godden controlled a poor clearance and crossed for strike partner Jake Hyde, who made no mistake from six yards.

As the half-hour mark approached, Nicky Maynard almost made the most of a poor back-pass before Paul Downing fired off target from 20 yards after a well-worked corner.

. 1-1 Just two minutes later, the Dons were level and in some style too – Upson brought the ball down nicely and found the top corner with a stunning effort from 25 yards.

Godden went close to grabbing his second of the afternoon on 18 minutes but his lobbed effort ended on the roof of the net.

At the other end, George Baldock put in a magnificent tackle to deny Jobi McAnuff, who had made a very clever run into the box.

The men from MK1 responded well and enjoyed a good spell in their opponents’ half, which included a free-kick from Ed Upson and a shot from Samir Carruthers both being well blocked.

. 1-0 Matt Godden handed the hosts the perfect start inside the first minute when he broke through the Dons defence, checked and coolly slotted past Charlie Burns.

The Dons’ pre-match preparations were disrupted when David Martin (ill) and Daniel Powell (foot) were replaced in the hour before kick-off.
