Agard: Sixfields loss still stings

18 January 2017

Saturday sees MK Dons play host to Northampton Town – a side whose 3-2 victory in the previous meeting arguably ranks as one of the most disappointing results of this season.

In front of the Sky Sports cameras at Sixfields Stadium, the Cobblers dominated the first half and ran out to a three-goal lead after just 28 minutes. The men from MK1 hit back through Dean Bowditch and Samir Carruthers but it did little to affect the result or the frustration after the game.

“That defeat left a bitter taste in all of our mouths,” Agard, who featured in that game, told REDDOT. “We’ve still got that in the back of our mind and when they come here on Saturday we’ll be looking to try and get the win over them.”

A lot has changed since that meeting in Northamptonshire, with both sides under the leadership of new managers and the Dons a much more confident outfit after a strong recent run of results, in particular at home.

Agard is hopeful the recently built-up momentum will lift them to glory this weekend.

“We’re playing with a lot of confidence now and hopefully we can bring that into Saturday’s game,” the 27-year-old said. “It’s a very big game for us and we’ve been working hard so far this week to get the result.

“Not that we didn’t have it before but we’ve got confidence in abundance now and there’s a spring in people’s steps now we’ve got a few more results under our belts.”

You can read the full interview with Agard in this Saturday’s edition of REDDOT, which will be available from sellers around Stadium MK and the Box Office ahead of kick-off.

The striker talks through some of the key moments in his career, including a Premier League debut at Chelsea, as well as the important role his family have played – also, find out which match-worn shirts Kieran has stored in his wardrobe at home!
