Disappointment in defeat

20 February 2017

George Baldock admits MK Dons were far from their best in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Baldock & Co fell to their first home league loss since Boxing Day last weekend, in a game where the men from MK1 failed to recover after falling behind on the hour mark to the visitors from Lancashire.

“It was very disappointing because we were nowhere near our best,” the right back told MK Dons PlayerHD.

“Everyone has to chip in a little more and help with the attacking side. We didn’t create much at all – we all needed to provide better service to the front men.”

“We need to be more ruthless going the other way too. We can’t rely on clean sheets in order to get something out of the game –we need to go back to putting five past Northampton (Town) and four past Peterborough (United).

“From open play, they didn’t really hurt us at all. It was a sloppy and cheap goal to give away which is, again, disappointing because we’ve shored up a lot in recent weeks.

“It’s going to take time but his philosophy will come through – he’s definitely the right man to do it.”

“He’s already put a massive stamp on the team and you can see that in recent weeks –that was only our second defeat in nine games which is stark contrast to the form we had before he came in.

Baldock believes the team have vastly improved under the Scotsman and feels the best is yet to come as the 36-year-old’ continues to make his mark on the side.

Saturday’s defeat was only the Dons’ second at home since Robbie Neilson’s appointment back at the start of December.
