Defender Scott signs for the Dons

5 August 2016

MK Dons have made defender Scott Wootton their fourth signing in the past seven days.

Wootton, who left Sky Bet Championship outfit Leeds United in the summer, joins on a two-year deal which ties him to the Club until June 2018.

The towering 24-year-old spent time with English giants Liverpool and Manchester United as a youngster and has since gone on to make 123 senior appearances for clubs such as Peterborough United, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United and, his most-recent employers, Leeds.

Wootton is predominantly a centre-back but he can also play in either full-back position, as well as defensive midfield.

After completing his move, the versatile defender told mkdons.com: “This is a really good, forward-thinking club and I’m delighted to be here.

“I’ve not had much of a pre-season so it might take a little while to fully integrate into the squad but I’m excited to, hopefully, play regular first-team football in a good team with good players.

“I’m really looking forward to getting going.”

Manager Karl Robinson said of his new signing: “Scott is someone who I’ve known since he was 13 years of age and I’ve seen his career blossom – it was a really proud moment seeing him start for Manchester United’s first team and he’s played in the Champions League for them as well.

“He’s played over 70 games in the Championship for the likes Leeds United, Peterborough and Rotherham so between our three centre-halves, now, we have well over 250 games and they are all of a good age as well, which is important to what we are trying to build here.”

Wootton will wear the number 5 shirt and is eligible to feature in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One opener at Shrewsbury Town.
