MK Dons will face some familiar foes next season and goalkeeper David Martin hopes to make the most of those clashes.
“There will be some games next season that will mean a little bit more, obviously,” Martin told mkdons.com. “I’m sure it will be exciting.
“You could feel the pressure in the Northampton game last year with it being a local derby and you could see what it meant to the supporters, not just because of the carrot of playing Chelsea in the next round.”
He continued: “Those types of games can go either way – they could excel them on or they could excel us on.
“They normally turn out to be scrappy games but hopefully we can put on a show and prove that we are better than those sides and all the sides in the division.”
With the Dons one of three sides coming down from the Sky Bet Championship next season, Martin expects them to be a real target for teams in the division but the 30-year-old expects that will only drive the team on.
“People are going to want to knock us down, especially when they come to our place.
“Our stadium is at least a Championship-standard stadium and I think, during our time in League One, teams always upped their game when coming here.
“We’re one of the strongest teams in the division and we need to show in the way we play our football that we are too.”
