Barker departs Stadium MK

20 December 2016

Richie Barker has today (Tuesday) left Milton Keynes Dons Football Club by mutual consent.

Head of coaching Barker joined the Club in March 2014 and played a crucial role in the guiding the Dons to promotion from Sky Bet League One.

Following Karl Robinson’s departure, he took over as caretaker manager and impressed everyone with his professionalism and integrity, as highlighted by chairman Pete Winkelman.

He told mkdons.com: “We’ll always be grateful to Richie for the work he did at the Club during his time here.

“He played a key role in our promotion-winning campaign and also worked tirelessly to develop the players we have here.

“He stepped into the caretaker manager role under difficult circumstances this season, yet his qualities enabled him to galvanise the group.

“We were very keen for Richie to remain at Stadium MK so we explored a number of options for him internally but after full consideration it was determined that it would be best for both parties to go our separate ways.”

Barker added: “It was a decision in the best interests of both me and MK Dons. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my two-and-a-half years at this great club.

“I’m proud of the achievements, including a promotion, cup runs and the development of young players.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to the chairman, Andy Cullen, the players, the staff and the fans - they’ve all been fantastic with me from the moment I walked in the door.

“I’ll always look back on my time here with great fondness – I wish the Club all the best for the future.”

Everyone at MK Dons would like to thank Richie for his superb contribution and wish him every success moving forward.
