MK Dons Women welcome Portsmouth in League Cup competition…

27 October 2023

MK Dons Women welcome Portsmouth to Fairfield’s Sports Hub as both teams prepare for the second-round of the FAWNL League Cup competition.

Following the early stages of the contest, which saw successful preliminary rounds for both teams, MK Dons and Portsmouth now battle to sustain their place within the knockout competition.

Charlie Bill’s Women are one step away from replicating last season’s milestone, which saw the team reach the quarter-finals of the league tournament.

Likewise, the visitors will leave everything out on the field as they search to reach if not better their semi-final placement from last season’s run.

This fixture will be hosted at Fairfield’s Sports Hub – kick-off 2:00pm.

THE OPPOSITION
Pompey have recently acquired a six-game unbeaten streak, which replicates that of MK Dons Women as both teams will seek to see out a flawless month of results throughout October.

A game where only one team can progress as the victors, Sunday could prove to be a mighty battle for either side in their mission to continue their impressive record thus far.

LAST TIME OUT - FAWNL LEAGUE CUP
After succeeding within the preliminary rounds, Charlie Bill’s team travelled to face Cambridge City in what would prove to be a convincing triumph within the previous stage of the competition.

Vice-Captain Gemma Biggadike led the way with her opener just two minutes after the start of the match before young forward Lily Dolling doubled Dons’ lead on the ten-minute mark.

Laura Mitchell then converted a penalty before Amy McLean scored the fourth and final goal of the half as the teams were indicated for the interval.

Mitchell and Dolling had both built upon their successful strikes within the first-half to secure a six-goal margin over the opposition.

A brace in favour of the two forwards concluded the second 45 minutes of action, meaning the players had completed their responsibilities at either end of the field to be rewarded with a 6-0 victory away from home.
