Robbie Muirhead reflects on his Rotherham United brace and his call-up to the Scotland Under-21s squad...

Robbie Muirhead won’t be forgetting Tuesday in a hurry.

Hours after being named in the Scotland Under-21s side for very first time, Muirhead scored twice at Stadium MK to help MK Dons secure a vital 3-2 victory over Rotherham United.

“After getting my first call-up to Scotland [Under-21s], getting two goals tonight and getting the win has topped my day off,” Muirhead told mkdons.com.

“It’s been three years since my last call-up. I’m obviously very happy to get my first call-up to the Under-21s and I’m looking forward to it.

“Tonight, I didn’t think I started off well but after scoring my first [goal] I grew into the game a bit more.”

While Muirhead’s brace played a pivotal role in the triumph, credit must also go to goalkeeper Lee Nicholls, who pulled off a terrific diving save to keep the Dons, at that point, two goals ahead – an advantage which obviously proved crucial.

“I said it in the dressing room after the game, that it was probably one of the best saves I’ve seen live. Lee has helped to get us three points tonight.”

Tuesday’s win saw the Dons move to within four points of safety in Sky Bet League One heading into another crucial home clash with Bury at the weekend. Muirhead has called on the side to use the victory as a platform to build upon.

“Getting a win will always bring the team’s morale up – there is no better feeling than winning.

“This is just the start, though. We’re still four points from safety but hopefully tonight’s win will give us the confidence to kick on now and get the wins we need to boost ourselves to safety.”

Finally, Muirhead addressed his two celebrations and revealed: "For the first one, I celebrated like John Cena! The second one was straight off of Fortnight!”
