He may not have been announced as the scorer but Paul Downing is certainly claiming Saturday’s match-winning goal.
“I’m claiming it!” Downing told MK Dons PlayerHD after the triumph. “It was a good ball in initially from Stuart (O’Keefe). Harvey then did well to get the cross in and it’s come off me and into the goal – I was very happy to score.”
“That said, we’ve shored up at the back recently and hopefully we can keep that going. We need to keep making sure we’re hard to beat and letting the lads up front win us the game.”
"We’re disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet because we’d been reasonably solid throughout the game.
The only negative from Saturday’s success was the late goal the Dons conceded to Shrews striker Stephen Humphrys, which ended hopes of what would have been an 11th clean sheet of the campaign.
“It was a big game for us and it was important, with us being so close to them in the table, that we got the three points. Now, hopefully, we can keep looking forward in the league.”
“We wanted to start the game well and put them on the back foot – as it turned out, we probably won the game in that first 15 minutes.
Downing’s goal – his first since joining the Club last summer – capped off a superb opening 11 minutes from the Dons, who stunned the in-form Shrews with two early strikes.
