Maynard made up to be back

6 July 2016

Karl Robinson was very open about his desire to keep hold of Nicky Maynard and that is what persuaded the striker to return to Stadium MK.

Maynard’s original contract expired at the end of June but the striker will be staying in Milton Keynes for a further 12 months after putting pen-to-paper on a fresh deal.

“I’m pleased to be staying here,” Maynard told MK Dons PlayerHD. “It was a disappointing season overall last year, but I enjoyed my time here – I got to know the players well and the gaffer had me playing a lot of football.

“The main thing for me was to be somewhere I felt wanted and somewhere where I’d get my fair share of games. There was interest from other clubs but I spoke to the gaffer quite a few times over the summer and he told me how much he really wanted me.”

“I was pleased to get a few goals last season. The aim is to get a lot more goals this season and get us back into the Championship.”

“I know if I get games, I’m going to score goals, it’s just about having that belief from the players and management around you and luckily enough, I’ve settled in quite quickly here.

Maynard finished the 2015/16 campaign as the Dons’ leading goalscorer with eight to his name and the 29-year-old is confident he’ll continue to find the net in Sky Bet League One.

Not only did boss Robinson want Maynard to return to Stadium MK, but also the Dons supporters who were very vocal on social media about their want for the former Crewe Alexandra trainee to be a part of the 2016/17 squad.

His message to those fans?
“I’m thankful they’ve wanted me back and I hope I can repay them with goals – I’m going to put my neck on the line and target 20+ goals this season,” Maynard said. Maynard could make his Stadium MK return on Tuesday 26th July, when the men from MK1 host Everton in a pre-season friendly.

Tickets for the friendly are priced from £12 adults and £3 under-18s, while Season Ticket holders are entitled to discounted prices - click here for full details!
