Report: Dons 1-1 Huddersfield Town

Alex Revell had finished off a fine move to give the Dons the lead just before the half-hour mark but Nahki Wells struck in the final five minutes to deny the Dons all three points.

Cody Cropper made his first career start, replacing the injured David Martin, while Dean Bowditch, Jonny Williams and Alex Revell also came into the starting XI.

As well as Martin, Matt Upson, Carl Baker and Ben Reeves missed out due to injury. Samir Carruthers suspended.

The game started evenly but it was the visitors who had the first of the chances – Nahki Wells fired over the top before James Husband headed off target.

Dons hit back with two opportunities of their own on 10 minutes – Williams seeing a close-range shot brilliantly saved by the legs of Jed Steer, who then gathered the Wales international’s 25-yard effort.

Shortly afterwards, more good football set up Revell, who was superbly denied at the back post by Steer, this prior to Bowditch being charged down by the Terriers captain Matt Hudson.

The Dons’ pressure told on 28 minutes when some nice interchange on the right between George Baldock and Bowditch set up the busy Williams, who crossed for Revell and he powered a header past Steer – his first goal for the Club.

Full of confidence after his goal, Revell tried his luck with a speculative volley from a Darren Potter cross-field pass but the effort ended up off target.

Huddersfield were reduced to 10 men shortly after the break when substitute Phillip Billing fouled Jake Forster-Caskey in the middle of the park.

The Dons went close to make it 2-0 through Josh Murphy on 56 minutes but his fierce free-kick whistled past the post from a tight angle.

On a rare foray forward for the Terriers, Wells fired wide of the target 10 minutes later – the Dons were making the most of their man advantage and keeping the ball well.

Wells went closer on 71 minutes when he forced Cropper into a smart save, and from the resulting corner Forster-Caskey cleared Hudson’s effort off the line.

Kyle McFadzean was then in the right place at the right time to clear away a dangerous delivery from the visitors, who were enjoying a good spell of pressure as the game ticked towards the final 10 minutes.

They got their reward on 86 minutes when Wells latched on to Hudson’s flick-on and delicately lifted the ball over Cropper from 15 yards.

The Dons rallied but the closest they came was a shot over the top from substitute Nicky Maynard and they had to settle for a point.

Starting XI: Cropper; Baldock, McFadzean, Walsh, Lewington (c); Potter, Forster-Caskey; Bowditch, Williams (Maynard 75), Murphy (Hall 69); Revell.

Unused subs: Burns, Kay, Spence, Powell, Emmanuel-Thomas.
